Originally from Scotland, Kathryn has lived in Pocklington for many years and now considers herself a true local.  In her spare time Kathryn enjoys spending time with her teenage daughter, walking with her chocolate labrador , and is also a keen gardener.

In Kathryn’s own words –

“I doubt anyone would have guessed I started my career in Italy! My love of horses brought me to Pavia! South of Milan where I worked for an International Showjumper. Not only did I appreciate the wonderful job I had but it also began my love affair with European Architecture. Fortunate enough to travel within Europe I got to see many sites at a young age. The Duomo in Milan is a favourite, there you will find 3,400 statues and if you go to the top you will fully appreciate the Architecture and the Famous Madonnina who in her gold colour stands on the cathedral highest spire.

A few Year’s later I engaged in a career change, I started work with Scottishpower as a Junior Buyer within the Retail division. At the same time as learning the ropes at work I continued my love of Interior’s. Starting with small projects of Friends and family’s and even the odd neighbour. Primarily advising on paint colours, Wallpapers and fabrics for window dressings and dare I say it the odd outfit! As Scottishpower grew it quickly became key to the UK’s Electrical market. Now no 3 after the Dixons Group (Curry’s & Dixon’s) and Comet. I was now a senior brown good Buyer with which came with a lot of International travel! So once again I was able to visit amazing places with outstanding architecture from so many different cultures Korea, Japan, China, Amsterdam, Spain I recall Japan with their wonderful clothes and interior Design so different to that of the UK’s. Bright Colours and simple house designs. Having visited The Ryoan-ji Temple in Kyoto (The home to the world’s most famous Japanese Zen Garden) Here the simplicity and beauty is quite breath-taking.

I was by this time buying and selling houses which I’d transformed from semi derelict to just badly decorated. This is where I began to explore my Interior Design Skills, Having had no formal training I was able to use my experience and ideas from all that I’d captured while working and travelling around the world not forgetting I also spend two years in South Africa mainly in Durban but also experienced Cape Town and Johannesburg. I stated my own business as project manager and was involved with New Builds, renovations, extensions their was nothing I wouldn’t tackle and yes I made mistakes but I am a firm believer that they make you stronger and more Knowledgeable. I often got involved with the interior side of these projects, designing kitchen’s, Bathrooms floor designs may it be Italian Travertine or rustic oak flooring. I loved and thrived on it.

In 2019 I was fortunate to be offered an Interior Design position with Furnish & Fettle. It may have taken a few years but I truly feel I have found my true vocation in life and that I will draw on my experiences from being mesmerized by Italian stained glass windows to The simple breath-taking Japanese Zen Garden, not forgetting the wonderful colours of Europe when they celebrate their festivals.”
